Frequently Asked Questions

  • Microgreens are the small/micro stage of the vegetables and herbs that we already know and love. Think broccoli, radish, pea, turnip, kale, and arugula just to name a few. They can range in height from a 2-3 inch stem with usually one set of true leaves and because they don't use up all the energy in their seed to grow to the mature stage, they can be up to 40 times as nutritious as their mature counterpart. They have been widely used in restaurants as a garnish, but because of their nutrient-dense nature, many people are starting to incorporate them into their daily lives!

  • Microgreens are delicious. They taste very similar to their mature counterparts but often have a fresher flavor. Depending on the variety you are eating, they can be slightly sweeter, nuttier, tangier or spicier. If you have specific varieties that you want to know more about, please contact us and we will be happy to get you the information or even a sample if we have it available!

  • This is the fun part-Microgreens can be integrated into almost any meal or snack! They are beautiful, so for those who like to eat with their eyes first, these greens can take a plain plate and really make it stand out! Most common uses for microgreens are adding to:

Salads, sandwiches, soups, hamburgers, wraps, baked potatoes, tacos, smoothies and pizza for additional flavor and nutrition.

You can also just snack on them by themselves, which is often what we do with our sunflower shoots and pea shoots!

  • Microgreens, once harvested, will usually last anywhere from 5-8 days, depending on a couple things-keeping them cool and keeping them dry. Our advice is to get your microgreen boxes into the fridge or a cooler as soon as you can after purchasing (or leave a cooler out for deliveries) and when you wash them before eating, make sure to ensure they are completely dry before putting them back into their package. Another option after washing would be to place a dry paper towel in the bottom of package and place microgreens on top to help absorb extra moisture. These tips will help extend the life of your microgreens.

**Avoid placing microgreens next to the blower in your fridge or directly on an ice pack, as they can freeze rapidly, resulting in undesirably soft and limp greens.
